Browser Setup for Evergreen

Overview

Evergreen is an ILS that runs as a web application in your browser. Setting up your browser correctly ensures optimal performance when using the Evergreen staff client.

For security and best performance, we recommend setting up a dedicated browser profile for Evergreen that is not connected to personal accounts. You can still set up a separate, non-Evergreen profile for personal browsing, email, or other activities.

Bibliomation officially supports Evergreen in the following browsers:

  • Chrome logo Google Chrome (recommended)

  • Firefox logo Firefox

System Requirements

Before setting up your browser, ensure your workstation meets these minimum requirements.

Internet Connectivity

The Evergreen web client requires a persistent connection to the Evergreen servers. Most internet traffic uses brief moments of connectivity, so connectivity issues often appear in the Evergreen web client first.

Table 1. Recommended Internet Connection Speeds
Category Downstream Upstream Latency (to Servers)

Bare Minimum

3 Mbps

786 Kbps

less than 200ms

Adequate

6 Mbps

1 Mbps

less than 125ms

Ideal

12 Mbps

2 Mbps

less than 75ms

Most bandwidth usage in a library comes from other internet activity by staff and patrons, not from Evergreen itself. When staff workstations share an internet connection with public workstations, libraries should ideally have at least 1.5–2x more downstream/upstream capacity than what is listed above.

Port Requirements

If your site has its own firewall, you will need to ensure that port 7682 is open in order to log into the web client.
